Temperature, relative humidity, and particle count (PM2.5 & PM10) can critically impact operations at a construction site, mining operation, or bulk handling facility. When particulate amounts exceed specific trigger points, it may be necessary to alter or suspend operations. Suspension or other remediations help maintain the health and safety of the local population by limiting the dispersion of airborne dust and particulate.
Construction site operators need instant access to measurement data that shows them how effective their dust management controls are. Local authorities need to know that the project owners are staying within the agreed limits whilst local communities want to feel that their safety concerns are fully addressed.
QSafe Dust monitoring system contains an array of features that enable it to operate continuously in tough conditions without any loss in performance. Through our web-based monitoring platform, the Real-Time dust monitoring system will continuously log dust levels and alert designated people enabling them to take immediate action should levels exceed defined limits. Our Real-Time dust monitoring system measures Temperature, Humidity, PM10, and PM2.5 simultaneously.
Real-time dust monitoring may be required to verify that mitigation measures are effective.
Parameters include:
- PM10 - particles with diameters 10 microns and smaller – typically soil.
- 5 - particles with diameters of 2.5 microns and smaller – typically exhaust from heavy machinery.
Purpose of Air Quality Monitoring:
It is essential to give full and proper consideration to the purpose of monitoring during the construction works before any strategy is finalized. Monitoring may be carried out to fulfill several objectives:
- To ensure that the construction activities do not give rise to any exceedances of the air quality objectives for PM10 & PM2.5, or any exceedances of recognized threshold criteria for dust deposition/soiling.
- To ensure that the agreed mitigation measures to control dust emissions are being applied and are effective.
- To provide an “alert” system about increased emissions of dust, and a trigger for cessation of site works or application of additional abatement controls.
- To provide a body of evidence to support the likely contribution of the site works in the event of complaints.
- To help to attribute any high levels of dust to specific activities on-site so that appropriate action may be taken.
What is the Guideline for Air Particulate Matters?
- Particulate Matter (PM2.5) : 37.5µg/m3 (24-hours mean)
- Particulate Matter (PM10) : 50µg/m3 (24-hours mean)
