Legal requirement for Hearing Conservation Program :
As per the Workplace Safety and Health Guidelines Hearing Conservation Programme Rev 2014 as part of the company’s workplace safety and health (WSH) programme, when a person is exposed to 85 dB(A) or more over an eight-hour workday it is mandatory for his employer to implement a comprehensive Hearing Conservation Programme (HCP) to protect the workforce from exposure to excessive noise. The purpose of the Hearing Conservation Programme is to minimize the noise level that the workforce is exposed by following the elements mentioned in the hearing conservation and thereby prevent their workforce from the occupational disease – Noise Induced Deafness.

The basic seven steps (but not limited to) of a Hearing Conservation Program are:
Step 1:
Perform noise mapping to identify the high noise zones within the workplace and personal dosimetry to the required number of workforce as per the Workplace Safety and Health (Noise) regulations 2011.

Step 2:
On identifying the high noise zones, based on the noise mapping report implement the noise control measures as per the hierarchy of control measures.

Our Consultants shall discuss with the occupier or factory license holder and advise the most feasible control measures to prevent the workforce exposure to high noise levels in-line with the legal requirement.
Step 3:
This step involves in selection of the most suitable Personal Protective Equipment (ear plug or ear muff) based on the required Noise Reduction Rate (NRR) to bring down the workforce noise exposure level less than 85 dB(A) or more over an eight-hour workday.

Step 4:

Step 5:
This step involves the following
- Conducting audiometric examination at least once a year for the existing workforce (who are exposed to high noise levels within their workplace)
- Conducting audiometric examination for the new joined workforce within three months of their employment
- Submitting the Audiometric examination to Ministry of Manpower through online portal

Step 6:

- Maintaining the PPE (Hearing Protection) issue record
- Recordkeeping the noise mapping reports
- Recordkeeping the audiometric examination report

Step 7:
This step involves the following
